The Satellite College facility should be placed in the former H.G. Hill store in Moreland Shopping Center. Why?

  • Taxpayers would not need to build a 900 foot road to benefit a local developer.
  • Taxpayers would not need to excavate.
  • Taxpayers would not need to build water, sewer, electric, and gas lines to benefit a local developer.
  • Taxpayers would not need to build water retention ponds.
  • Taxpayers would not need to build a parking lot for 250+ cars.
  • Taxpayers would not need to build elevators for handicap accessibility.
  • H. G. Hill is 10,000 square feet larger than is proposed to build new and more conveniently located for students.
  • H. G. Hill building going back into a useful purpose would revitalize the local retail neighborhood.
  • Students can walk to area restaurants and stores who are already here paying taxes and are dues paying Chamber of Commerce members.
  • Taxpayers will save $5 million if we lease instead of build new and make mortgage payments for many years.
  • Taxpayers would pay $460,000 per year in debt service to build and will be responsible for all repairs. If taxpayers lease: there will be significant additional savings.
  • Emergency services such as police, fire, and ambulance are more readily available than would be in an outlying isolated location.
  • Using an existing building is environmentally friendly as opposed to invading existing green space.
